Did you see the final times for the 10K City Run this weekend? They destroyed the records. Somebody went under 29 minutes. Of course, he's a native Kenyan. Pius Nyantika blazed a 28:58. I just did the math and that works out to 4 minutes 40 seconds pace per mile. How sick is that?
Not as sick as this. The winner of the 14 and under division was a kid named Caleb Barrett. He scorched a 43:41. That works out to a straight up 7 minutes per mile pace. Some of my worst memories in the Triple Crown of running was having little kids in the little kids division sprinting past me in the final yards. Now it looks like they can blow by me long before the end of the race. I haven't been able to average 7's for a long time now in anything beyond a 5K.
They're crediting the great, mild weather for smashing the records this weekend. I think I need more than nice weather to even keep up with the 14 year olds these days.
