Midday Monday...
Southerly winds have returned warm and humid weather over the weekend. Increasing moisture overnight led to showers and thunderstorms along and south of the Ohio River and they will continue off and on (mostly off) this afternoon, tonight and tomorrow.
Of primary concern is tomorrow night. Another strong storm will develop along the Mississippi Valley and spread a cold front through the Ohio Valley. This time, however, the situation looks like a more traditional late winter/early spring severe weather maker. The primary area of concern will be along the southern Mississippi Valley, TN and the Gulf Coast states. In a situation similar to last week, we'll be in an area with marginal instability while the primary strength of the upper level winds pass to our west rather than right over us. So, the situation should not be nearly intense as last week. However, that does not discount the severe weather potential. The Storm Prediction Center has the Louisville area in a "slight risk" for severe storms late tomorrow/tomorrow night. Areas south and west of Louisville are in a "moderate risk."
This morning's computer runs slow the primary system/cold front a few hours from earlier runs. That should be good news for us - a few hours of darkness should reduce the instability and weaken the storms. Hopefully, this time before they reach Louisville.
I like your take on the storms! It made me feel better. I know you've been around long enough to trust your gut instincts. I watched a video commentary on the situation from Henry at Accuweather and it was downright scary! We just cleared the tree from our roof and I know that plenty of other families are still cleaning up - I'm preparing for the worst and hoping for the best. Keep up the great work!
