As you may have guessed, January ended up being warmer and wetter than normal, but with less snow than we typically see. It also will go down as an active month for severe weather and tornadoes with the largest tornado outbreak this region has EVER had in the month of January. We weren't alone though. Preliminary data has this January in the record books as the third highest for tornadoes in the US, according to USA Today.
Here's a look at the January Summary from the NWS in Louisville:
The warmest temperature we had in January was 64 degrees on the 6th. The coldest temperature was 17 degrees which we hit three times on the 3rd, 13th and the 14th.
Now as we look ahead to the first of February, we are starting off with warm temperatures that will remain above average through Super Bowl Sunday!
A cold front is moving through today, bringing the few showers that we've seen. Most of the day will be dry, but be prepared to see a quick shower or two with slight chances remaining in the forecast for the rest of the day. Even without much help from the sun, we will return to the 60s today under mostly cloudy skies.
The air behind this cold front is not very cold at all. In fact, the high temperature from today compared to tomorrow's forecast high is only five degrees different. As high pressure moves in tomorrow, it will be nice to see all the sunshine, even if the temperatures are slightly cooler, it may make it seem warmer.
And don't forget that tomorrow is Groundhog Day!!! Kevin Harned and John Belski are in the car right now headed for Gobbler's Knob in Pennsylvania... a road trip to rival Oprah and Gale's, I'm sure. You can check out their reports from PA starting at 5pm today. They will also be live during our morning newscast tomorrow morning. Join us for all the groundhog goodness from Gobbler's Knob!
