Good afternoon, friends!
Scattered showers and storms have developed this afternoon and will continue overnight. They will remain scattered in nature with some locations seeing little to no rain over the next few hours. As we head into the overnight forecast data suggests the showers/storms could become more widespread. There won’t be any widespread severe weather tonight but as we head into sunrise tomorrow and throughout the day tomorrow there’s a better chance for strong or severe storms. Lets break it down…
Mostly cloudy skies especially West of I-65. Scattered showers and storms continue as a large scale storm system slowly moves closer to us. Any storms that pop tonight could produce heavy rain, small hail, gusty winds, and dangerous lightning. Severe threat remains low overnight.
Scattered showers and storms will remain on and off throughout the day tomorrow. The Storm Prediction Center has placed all of the WAVE 3 viewing area under a SLIGHT RISK of severe thunderstorms throughout the day tomorrow. There are a few factors that need to play into this set up that would enhance our severe weather threat. First of all if we can remain mostly overcast tomorrow this will help stabilize our atmosphere. If we see breaks in the cloud deck the sun will help warm the atmosphere and any storms that develop will have a better chance to turn strong or severe. Our main threats will be hail, gusty winds…and these storms will produce a lot of rain quickly as the atmosphere will be saturated and there will be plenty of moisture to work with. We could also see a light show with any of these storms producing frequent lightning. With the cloud cover temps will remain lower region wide…areas that are locked into the cloud cover and rain will struggle to make it out of the 60s.
Scattered showers and storms will linger into the beginning of the weekend. We expect dry conditions to prevail by Saturday evening and much nicer weather expected to end the weekend.
Kevin will have the latest on your forecast coming up on WAVE 3 news at 11pm. I’ll see you from 7-8pm. Have a great evening!
