A Severe Thunderstorm WATCH is now in effect for Jackson and Lawrence Counties in Indiana until 7pm EDT. As storms form this evening there may be another watch issued for the immediate Louisville area.
The Storm Prediction Center's afternoon update expanded the Slight Risk of severe weather to include more of Kentucky near the Ohio River. There's also a 15% hail risk that's been added on to the already-issued 15% wind risk. My thinking right now is that damaging winds will be the main threat from storms that become severe but that large hail will be possible in the most severe storms. Storms will likely form after 4pm in Indiana and drift southward into Kentuckiana throughout the evening. It's important to note that not everyone will see storms tonight but those that do may have to contend with wind, heavy rain, lightning, and possibly some hail.
The latest run of the Rapid Refresh model (RAP) has some storms approaching the Louisville area near 6pm EDT.
We'll keep an eye on this and update you on our Facebook and Twitter accounts throughout the evening!
