Today is just going to be cold, but at least we get the sunshine. This afternoon is the season opener for the U of L baseball team, so maybe someone should tell mother nature that THIS is NOT baseball weather!
We are taking a jump ahead in the forecast to a potential trouble spot for Thursday night and Friday morning with the potential for ice.
Here are the top three things you need to know about the forecast:
We have a classic set up for freezing rain tomorrow night with a warm front moving over cold air in place near the ground. This warm front is going to bring rain that could freeze as it hits the ground. That could create a thin layer of ice on roads... especially bridges and overpasses. The other possibility with this is that we get a mixture of sleet and rain, which could also cause slick spots on the roads.
Below is the latest model for 10pm tomorrow night when the freezing rain/sleet may be falling in parts of WAVE Country... especially Indiana.
The green is rain, the pink is freezing rain/sleet, and the blue is snow.
If you want to be on the safe side, you should plan to be off the roads by 9pm tomorrow night.
As temperatures drop during the overnight, more freezing rain/sleet will fall which could allow ice to accumulate on roads while you are sleeping... dreaming of the weekend with warmer temperatures! Below is the snapshot of precip at 1am... the wee hours of Friday morning.
As the warm front moves over us, the temperatures will begin to warm up near the ground, so this will change precip over to just rain (perhaps right before the morning rush hour). There could still be icy spots on roads even though the precip falling at this time should be transitioning to rain.
The good news is... after this rain ends later in the morning on Friday, the temperatures will continue to warm up. We will have some warmer weather with clearing skies through the weekend.

I wanted to share a cute picture with you today. I asked folks to send in pictures of their pets enjoying the weather to my facebook page https://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/Christie-Dutton/124417917633940?fref=ts
This is Mr. Fox helping his family in Austin, IN save on their winter heating bill. Ha ha! A cat draft guard!
Send me a picture of your pet out in the weather or looking out a window or dressed for the weather or whatever you want. We've really enjoyed showing them on Sunrise.

The NWS has no mention of freezing rain, sounds like more TV weather hype
