The snow is already falling in New York City as the Northeast U.S. prepares for the biggest blizzard some cities have seen in a century. Close to 3,000 flights have been cancelled, and authorities in some towns are telling their residents just to stay inside. Schools in NY, CT, MA and RI have either cancelled classes today, or they will dismiss early.
Along with the snow, some areas could get hurricane force winds which could knock out power, reduce visibilities on the roads and create snow drifts. The worst part of this storm will hit this afternoon.
Flooding may be a concern for some communities in the Northeast after the snow begins to melt and fill up the tributaries.
